In 2024, Kelly Plourde left her global HR leadership role to spend a year sailing offshore with her family from Vancouver to Mexico and back. Life aboard a 42-foot sailboat quickly became a real-world lesson in resiliency, decision-making, and trust. Weather changes, equipment failures, and long offshore passages forced constant adaptation and teamwork. In this session, Kelly will share stories from life at sea and connect them to the realities we face every day. From navigating unpredictable conditions to making decisions with incomplete information, many of the lessons from sailing mirror the challenges inside organizations and everyday life. This session will open a conversation about resilience, influence, and what it takes to lead when the conditions around you are constantly changing. More about the facilitator Kelly Plourde is the Co-founder of HR Offscript, a modern HR consultancy that helps organizations move from reactive HR to practical, strategic people leadership. With more than two decades of experience in HR leadership, Kelly has worked across industries including technology, entertainment, healthcare, agriculture, and telecommunications and has supported organizations through growth, change, and complex people challenges. She is known for her direct, practical approach to HR, helping leaders navigate difficult conversations, strengthen workplace culture, and align people strategies with real business outcomes. Most recently she held senior global talent leadership roles supporting Netflix, where she led global talent operations, people experience, and large-scale international recruitment across North America, Europe, and Asia. In 2024, Kelly stepped away from her global role to pursue a long-held dream: sailing for a year with her family of five and their dog. The journey took them down the Pacific coast to Mexico and back, navigating offshore passages, uncertainty, and life in close quarters aboard a 42-foot sailboat. Today, Kelly brings those lessons about resilience, trust, and navigating uncertainty into her work with leaders and organizations through HR Offscript.
